In the language of Christian Science the word "Truth" is used as a synonym not only for God, but for His manifestation, the Christ-idea. Mary Baker Eddy makes this clear in her "Miscellaneous Writings" where she says (pp. 259, 260): "Truth is the power of God which heals the sick and the sinner, and is applicable to all the needs of man. It is the universal, intelligent Christ-idea illustrated by the life of Jesus, through whose 'stripes we are healed.'"
So at one are God and His manifestation that God would cease to be an entity if He were parted from Christ—the divine idea through which He expresses His power, His truth, and His glory. In Science we learn that God can no more be separated from His universal idea than the sun can be parted from its myriad rays.
In many ways Jesus proved that the Christ, Truth, is universal in its applicability to human needs. He showed not only the power of Christ over limitation, but the entirely mental nature of matter, by changing water into wine, thus supplying what appeared to be needed at the moment. He broke the so-called laws of physics by walking on the water, by moving his body instantly from one place to another, and by multiplying the loaves and fishes for a hungry throng. He healed the sick, raised the dead, restored his own body to life in the resurrection, and finally escaped from the delusion of mortal life by rising above it in the ascension. John ends his Gospel with the words (John 21:25), "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written." Here we have the implication that the Master solved through Christ, Truth, every type of human problem.
