DOMINION THROUGH SUBMISSION

From the April 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Freedom is inherent in man. Because he has dominion, he is free. Christian Science reveals that the freedom which is natural to man is demonstrable right now.

Paradoxical though it may seem, the first requisite in demonstrating freedom is the acknowledgment of authority, the admission that man is dependent for his very existence upon God, from whom he is inseparable in the relationship of cause and effect, Mind and its idea. Dictionary definitions of dominion and submission show them to be quite different in meaning. Yet it is submission to divine authority, to God's power and will, which enables us to prove man's dominion.

"To submit" means "to yield, resign, or surrender to power, will, or authority." To be submissive requires obedience, meekness, and humility. "Dominion" means "sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling; independent right of possession, use, and control."
