In 1925, after going through a period of mental unrest and unhappiness, I turned to Christian Science and found it to be the Comforter promised to us by Christ Jesus. Prior to this time my mother had been a student of Science for some years, but I had been indifferent to it. The leaven was at work, however, and my thought was being prepared to partake of the heavenly manna given to the world in the priceless writings of Mary Baker Eddy. I shall never forget the joy I felt on first reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in conjunction with the Bible and learning that Christian Science fulfills the prophecies in Holy Writ. It is indeed the "pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb" (Rev. 22:1).
There have been many instances of healing and protection in our family throughout the years, but I shall confine myself to relating briefly the following experience. About twenty years ago it became evident that a premature birth was imminent. The doctor held out no hope for the infant's survival, as it would arrive almost three months early. Later I was delivered of a tiny daughter, weighing two and a half pounds. As she was apparently stillborn, I was informed that I had lost her.
The doctor retired to an adjoining room, and my nurse, an ardent student of Christian Science, got in touch with the loving and faithful practitioner who was prayerfully working for me. Quite suddenly my thought was flooded with the radiance of spiritual being, a glimpse of the omnipresence and omnipotence of Life. An hour after the birth the little child uttered her first faint cry.
