Divine metaphysics, as explained and demonstrated in Christian Science, is not a subtle mystery, but is a practical, demonstrable Science, based upon divine Principle, which is God. Mary Baker Eddy states this important fact in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 111): "The Principle of divine metaphysics is God; the practice of divine metaphysics is the utilization of the power of Truth over error; its rules demonstrate its Science."
Christian Science defines God in part as Mind, Principle, Spirit, Truth, Life, and Love. These synonymous terms for God cannot be rendered in the plural, for there is one God only. In considering Mind as the Principle of divine metaphysics, it should be thoroughly understood that Mind is infinite intelligence, omniscience. Principle, as a name for God, indicates the omnipotence of the Supreme Being, that is, the governing power of all that exists in actuality. Principle, as understood and used in divine metaphysics, or Christian Science, is divine, never material or human.
Spirit, when considered as the Principle of divine metaphysics, is found to be entirely appropriate, for the metaphysics of Christian Science is wholly spiritual, an emanation of infinite Spirit. Christ Jesus, the master Metaphysician, understood Principle to be Truth; he not only spoke of the glorious results of knowing the truth, but demonstrated in many practical ways the healing and redeeming power of Truth. Love is the chief cornerstone in the spiritual structure of divine metaphysics. Without Love as Principle, scientific healing is not accomplished.
