Many colleges today are endeavoring to prepare people for better human relationships, especially marriage. This is true not only of educational institutions, but also of books, magazines, and the press, physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and so forth. Through these agencies mankind is being urged to strive toward a higher basis upon which all human relations may rest.
Mary Baker Eddy incorporated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" a chapter entitled "Marriage," covering fourteen pages. This chapter points out the rules for all harmonious human companionship and relationships. These rules put into practice would indeed improve marriage, end divorce, and bless family life, communities, and therefore the world.
Some of the marginal headings in that chapter are "Fidelity required," "Affection's demands," "Help and discipline," "Mutual freedom," "Permanent affection." Glancing over these headings, one will agree that they apply not only to marriage but to all human relationships. Misunderstandings between individuals and among nations, with their resultant inharmonies and divisions, indicate that certain changes must take place in thought in order to remedy these conditions. Christian Science teaches individuals how to accomplish this change of thought. Its teaching is based on the Bible, and it was practiced both by Christ Jesus and by Mrs. Eddy.
