SPIRITUALIZATION OF THOUGHT

From the June 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before one has progressed very far in the study of Christian Science he is challenged to spiritualize his thought. What does it mean to spiritualize thought? How is it accomplished? Paul in writing to the Philippians said (2:5), "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." This is a correct answer and one that is in full accord with the teachings of Christian Science.

God is Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, as the Bible indicates. He is also infinite Soul, Principle, Mind, as was revealed to Mary Baker Eddy through her spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures. Since God is Mind and God is All, the "mind ... which was also in Christ Jesus" must be the Mind which is God, the all-knowing intelligence of the universe. It is the Mind, or Spirit, from which emanates all goodness, wisdom, integrity, and righteous judgment.

It follows that the only Mind of man in God's image and likeness is the supreme, perfect, ever-available divine Mind. Hence what mortals call mind—or minds many—separated from the infinite Mind, is not mind at all, but a perverted, upside-down sense of mind, which is better termed ignorance of God.
