We read in Luke (13:11) of a woman who "was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself." For eighteen years the disease had persisted, yet Jesus healed her. "Woman," he said, "thou art loosed from thine infirmity." And we are told that "immediately she was made straight, and glorified God." What her thoughts were, how alive her hope of eventual healing, we can only guess. But Jesus lifted human thought above its self-imposed restrictions, and the woman found herself well. Christ Jesus healed at the very time in which he came in contact with the need of a sufferer. Christian Science, following the Master's way, says, "Come and be healed—today!"
God's love for man is fully available today, provable in the now of human experience. To wait for a better day or a more convenient time to enjoy and prove God's care for His own is to miss the opportunities at hand and to fail to enjoy the fruitage available each hour. No one can understand this better than the earnest Christian Scientist. All the hope and faith required to face new demands, all the spiritual ideas applicable to present needs, all the support, love, and ability necessary to the solution of present problems, we can find within the circumference of today. God is infinite good, and He knows no time or material limitation. His love for His child is inviolate. He cares for His idea constantly and never withholds blessings or restrains the continuous activity of His law of unfoldment and progress.
It is impossible to find a legitimate reason to delay healing. Jesus saw mortals offering many excuses for putting off the enjoyment of good things available through the ministration of the Christ. He said (John 4:35): "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal."
