What time I came with outstretched hand,
with hungering heart longing for truth and peace,
With what gentleness you welcomed me,
Listening kindly, letting the false words which
I spoke fall to earth without a sound,
Cheering the true, stirring my thought
to freer air,
As a woman tending plants
may stir the earth, may clip and
prune unwanted foliage
And bring a bloom.
