Christian Science is a religion of joy. It proclaims to all men that the presence and power of the Christ are ever available to take away all the world's ills, and to establish the kingdom of heaven in human consciousness. Unless we are experiencing an increasing sense of deep-rooted joy in our daily experiences, we are not reaping the great benefits of Truth understood and scientifically practiced.
"Why," someone may be inquiring, "has the first glory and joy of this resurrection of consciousness, which has come to all Christian Scientists, seemed at times to become dulled? Why has the first sweet taste of the great truth of being, as revealed in Christian Science, become bitter in digestion, as the Revelator declares?" The answer to these questions can be found in Jesus' parable of the talents, in which he points out that those who receive valuable gifts must use them if they wish to progress. Those who used the material talents not only earned more, but were invited to enter into the joy of their lord. So the Christian Scientist must systematically and progressively utilize the great truths of Christian Science which have been revealed to him, if he wishes to continue to enjoy the newness of thought that came with his initial baptism in Spirit.
Although the world generally regards Jesus as a man of sorrows, bowed with grief, Christian Science reveals that he was undoubtedly the most joyous man who had ever lived on earth. In every thought and act he manifested the Christ—the nature and qualities of his divine Father-Mother, Love. In this Love he found no fear, pain, discord, or sorrow, but abiding and abundant joy, peace, health, and harmony. Therefore, despite the colossal claims of error to deprive Jesus of his unity with God, our Way-shower was not a man bowed with grief, but filled with the joy of Spirit.
