"Are we really grateful for the good already...

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more." This arresting admonition written by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" has awakened me to the importance of expressing my gratitude for all the benefits our family has received for many years through the study and application of Christian Science.

All through my childhood I was considered a very delicate girl. Sometimes for six weeks of a semester I was compelled to stay away from school because of illness. My parents were worried about me, and I was constantly under the doctor's care. Our family took up the study of Christian Science, and from that time on we relied entirely on God for our help. With the help of a practitioner my health was improved, and I became well and free from all my ailments.

After she had raised a large family, my mother entered the practice of Christian Science, and we witnessed and experienced healings which proved that nothing is impossible to God. When my mother was eighty-two she became very ill and lost the use of her limbs. She refused to stay in bed, however, and each day I removed her from the bed and seated her in a chair. She had help from her teacher and in a very short time regained her health and the use of her limbs. She stayed with us for fifteen years longer, actively practicing Science and participating in church activities. When she passed on I was healed of grief.
