Testimonies of Healing

It is with a deep desire to encourage...

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a deep desire to encourage others to turn wholeheartedly to God for healing that I write this testimony. About fifteen years ago I was taken ill with a severe case of colitis. X rays showed that every inch of the large intestine had ulcers. Each doctor would recommend another until one kindly told me that nothing more could be done. From then on I was just given sedatives, which were changed as often as each one lost its effectiveness. The fear of death was intense.

In Psalms we read (34:4), "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." I too sought God and prayed earnestly to be shown a way of deliverance. The answer came as though, like the ticking of a clock, a voice were repeating in my consciousness the words, "Christian Science, Christian Science." I knew nothing of this religion and knew no one who was even interested in it. However, my husband worked with a man who had been healed by it and, after talking with him, invited him and his wife to spend an evening with us. They shared many of their experiences in Science with us and told us of numerous healings, which gave us encouragement.

After they left I asked to be alone, and my thought turned to God in gratitude for all the wonderful healings they had told about. I was not even thinking about a healing for myself, but just being grateful for God's goodness. Suddenly it was as though a great light shone all around me, and while I did not understand it, my suffering ended. The next day I related the experience to a practitioner, whom these kind friends had called for me at my request. He assured me that my healing was complete, and that I could partake of any food I wished. This proved to be true. Previous to my healing I had been on a very strict diet, consisting mostly of liquids. Now I ate whatever I wanted without discomfort and began to gain weight steadily. I took up my duties at home and led an active, normal life.
