Whenever I hear the account of the healing of the lame man "at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful," as recorded in the Bible (Acts 3:1-8), I am reminded of a healing I had of a ruptured thigh muscle, sustained during a football match some years before World War II. Long periods of rest from training brought some improvement, but the weakness soon reappeared when sport was resumed. Finally at a practice tryout the muscle gave way, and I could hardly walk, let alone run.
As I had grown up in a home where Christian Science had always been successfully applied in times of trial, I decided to ask a Christian Science practitioner for help. After a short talk with him, I walked out of his office much engrossed in what he had said, and suddenly I realized that I was moving freely and without pain. How uplifted and joyous I felt as I walked down the street! I too felt like "walking, and leaping, and praising God." When I played in a match a few days later, there was not the slightest trace of the trouble, and the healing has been permanent.
Another healing was that of a swollen and unhealthy condition of my gums. I challenged the material evidence and affirmed that as the mouthpiece or expression of God, I could manifest only purity and perfect health, that the so-called laws and processes of matter could in no way touch or impair the integrity and wholeness of man.
