"I will praise thee: for thou hast heard...

From the April 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation" (Ps. 118:21). For as long as I could remember, prior to being led to study Christian Science, I had been dissatisfied and frustrated to the point of desiring many times to take my life. Although I had an inner conviction that each one is here to fulfill God's purpose, I found no place for myself. From my very first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the answer to my problem began to unfold, and I lost all desire to end my life.

Also I was instantaneously healed of smoking. To me, this was proof of all the truth revealed in Mrs. Eddy's writings. Since then I have had a constant desire to learn more of the Bible, to put Christian Science into practice, and to demonstrate the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 70), "Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity."

Several years ago it was my privilege to witness the following experience. My six-year-old son and I were on a hay ride with about twenty-five other children and several other mothers. My little one asked permission to jump off the wagon as it was nearing the end of the ride. I was sitting above one of the wagon wheels, and when he slipped to the ground, I felt the wheel rise as it went over him. I leaped off the moving wagon and began declaring "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) as I ran to the child. Without looking at him, I embraced him and told him to know the truth, as he had been taught to do in Sunday School, while I went to get my car, which was a short distance away.
