BRIDGING THE GAP

From the January 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As far as the Gospels and historical records are concerned, all those who earnestly turned to Christ Jesus in their need were quickly healed. Christian Science, which is the Science of Christian healing as Jesus demonstrated it, also heals quickly when properly understood and applied. Thousands of authenticated cases of healing bear witness to this fact.

Nevertheless, it is sometimes found in Christian Science practice that healings are delayed, that there is a waiting period between the declaration of the truth and the demonstration of normality.

The gap between declaration and demonstration is not bridged by time but by inspiration. Elihu, Job's friend, declared (Job 32:8), "There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." Throughout human history, men and women have been inspired to great achievements by mental or spiritual influences, often difficult to define in human language. The inspiration which lies behind the masterpieces of art, music, literature, and the like, is not of human origin; it is an impetus of spiritual sense emanating from the divine Mind, God.
