Christian Science was first presented to us at a time when there was great need for it in our home. My young brother was suffering from valvular heart disease and bronchitis. The doctor, a heart specialist, had predicted that the boy would never live an active, normal life and said that he must not run, take part in active games, or ride a bicycle. A relative who was an earnest student of Christian Science spoke to my mother and me of its healing truths.
We purchased a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and we also began to study the Lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly and to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Our relative prayerfully worked for my brother.
We learned through the study of Christian Science that God made man in His own image and likeness and that anything that was out of order or discordant was not of God's creating and therefore not true. We learned to use God's law and found that as we were faithful in our denial of error's false claims and positive in our declarations of the truth, the healing was taking place. After a time the boy was able to attend a public school and take part in all the regular activities, such as cricket, football, swimming, and riding a bicycle to and from school.
