A Few years ago the writer took a trip in the southern part of the United States through the "deep South." He crossed a bridge that engineers had for many years considered impossible to build at that particular location because of the great depth of the river, the swiftness of the current, and the depth of earth to penetrate in order to reach a stable foundation. The formidable financial problem also had seemed insurmountable. But the alleged impossible had been proved possible, and the greatly needed bridge was completed.
In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy pays tribute to human capability in these words (p. 199): "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible." We have much evidence of this in the history of human achievements.
Men and women of vision are the world's benefactors. Their clear discernment and foresight lead the way in every department of human endeavor. Through the tireless efforts of these people, many human comforts and conveniences have become available to mankind. Christian Science explains the extraordinary ability of certain individuals. It shows that the overcoming of fears and false limiting beliefs enables anyone to exceed his usual capacity.
