THE HEAVENLY HOSTS

From the November 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In strong and graphic tribute the Old Testament writers frequently referred to God as "the Lord of hosts." The phrase has indeed a colorful accuracy, conveying a sense of God's omnipotence and glory. However, in the light of the teachings of Christian Science, the words stand forth with a profound spiritual significance which surpasses mere literary beauty and reveals the truth that heals.

A "host" by dictionary definition is "an army. Any great multitude; a throng." Then what is the nature of the hosts of which God is the Lord? To perceive this nature practically, we must first know God intelligently.

Christian Science defines Him as follows: textbook states (p. 513): "God creates all forms of reality. His thoughts are spiritual realities."
