BEHOLDING THE CHRIST

From the November 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When a healing occurs in Christian Science, it is an indication that receptive thought has beheld the Christ, God's divine ideal. How to come into the presence of the Christ is the great question that besets mankind, and Christian Science holds the answer.

It is helpful to understand that Christ, Truth, is eternal, without beginning or end. Christ Jesus came to prove this fact to mankind. Mary Baker Eddy makes a clear distinction between Jesus and the Christ in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She writes (p. 332): "Jesus was born of Mary. Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual,—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death."

Christ Jesus came to a world which faced many of the problems confronting mankind today, such as sickness, sorrow, lack, doubt, despair, death. His mission was to prove man's immunity from these inharmonies and to demonstrate man's unity with God, his divine source.
