THE LIBERATING POWER OF INFALLIBLE LOVE

From the November 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is Love, the Bible informs us. The Scriptures also imply that God is divine Principle. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy frequently couples the words Principle and Love as synonyms for God. There is importance to be attached, therefore, to the fact that divine Principle is Love and divine Love is Principle.

Christian Science teaches that man, the spiritual image and likeness of God, is the expression of God's being. He therefore expresses or reflects God as Love and God as Principle. Just as rectitude, for example, is one of the qualities of divine Principle, God, so perfect love is one of the qualities of divine Love, God.

Tenderness, gentleness, goodness, are qualities of divine Love, and so they are concomitants of perfect love. Fallible humanity's sense of love is based too often upon a misapprehension of divine Love, Principle, and a false sense of love may produce or perpetuate evil instead of the good intended.
