The harvest season of the year is a time of rejoicing, a time in which to count one's blessings and to give special thanks to God for His abundance. The seeds of the earth have brought forth their marvel of multiplication, and the golden grain has been gathered into storehouses. Now it will be processed for consumption—most of it, but not all.
The farmer knows that he must have seed for a future crop; so the finest seed will be selected for this purpose. It will be carefully preserved until the time has come to plant it; then it will be sown in the earth, and the new planting will bring forth another harvest.
What is our annual harvest as Christian Scientists? Have our efforts produced a rich and satisfying yield, one we can regard with a feeling that we have made the most of our opportunities? If not, we shall do well to ask ourselves not only what kind of seed we have sown, but how well it was tended that it did not bring forth a more plentiful harvest.
