One student of Christian Science has proved more than once the practicality of Paul's words (I Cor. 6:19, 20): "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." On page 588 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "Holy Ghost" as, "Divine Science; the development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love." She also makes plain in her writings that God is Spirit and that man is His spiritual likeness.
These truths clarified Paul's words to the student when she was troubled with a recurring and all but prostrating pain which would sometimes last for several days and cause great weakness and weariness. She held steadfastly to the true concept of body as "the temple of the Holy Ghost," the reflection of Spirit, where only the qualities of God, divine Life, Truth, and Love, can develop. In the light of this true concept of body, she understood that what mortal man calls his own body is his personalized concept of what he has been educated to believe is his true selfhood.
She saw further that in Christian Science, where Spirit is acknowledged as the creator of all, man's spiritual identity or consciousness constitutes "the temple of the Holy Ghost." She realized that the unfoldment of her spiritual identity would be made practical in her experience as she was watchful to express only Godlike qualities of thought and to keep every word and act in line with the graces of Spirit.
