"God of the rolling year! to Thee we raise
A nation's holiest hymn in grateful praise!
Plenty and peace abound at Thy behest,
Yet wherefore this Thy love? Thou knowest best!"
Thus did Mary Baker Eddy begin what she named "Our National Thanksgiving Hymn" (Poems, p. 77). This poem was written about two months before her discovery, in 1866, of Christian Science.
Today and every day we should raise our voices "in grateful praise" to God, who continuously gives us of His goodness and wholeness. The plenitude which endures is spiritual and substantial reality. The peace we enjoy is the consciousness of heaven, harmony.
