Prior to coming into Christian Science, I always felt inferior to others. Through sincere study of the Bible and of Science and Health, as well as Mrs. Eddy's other writings, I have become quite poised and am able to give testimonies at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. Whenever I begin to feel inadequate now, I simply hold to the Biblical assurance, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Immediately freedom is gained from these mortal suggestions, and again my heart is filled with sincere gratitude.
Christian Science had benefited me for a number of years. I had been a regular attendant at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, but had been unable to overcome the tobacco habit of long standing. One day in the Reading Room, while talking to the librarian and another church member, I expressed the desire to stop smoking so that I could join the church. The member, who I later discovered was a Christian Science practitioner, told me that if my desire was sincere, I would soon be joining the church.
My healing was instantaneous, but I wanted to be sure; so two days later I attempted to smoke a cigarette. To my intense joy, I could not stand the taste of it, and I have never experienced a desire to smoke since. Within a very short time, I joined a branch church and then The Mother Church. My church activities have been pleasant and rewarding.
