My heart is overflowing with gratitude to those who have helped me and who are helping me to understand Christian Science better. I feel unspeakably thankful to God for Christ Jesus, the master Christian, and for our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose patience, strength, and deep love enabled her to give us a religion which is free from ceremony and which patterns the works of the Master.
I was born in a country where little freedom is enjoyed. However, even during times of great hardship, I was able, with the help of God, to remain reasonably independent.
I was constantly grateful to infinite Love for many things that are taken for granted by people in a free country. For example, I could shut off the radio whenever I wanted to. Such freedom was ordinarily denied to the people working in factories, and they had to listen to propaganda being voiced to them from morning until night. Those who worked for others could make no comments for fear of losing their jobs, and yet I could speak freely in our little workshop. People loved to come to see me; they said repeatedly that our little place seemed like an oasis in the desert. The consciousness of God's presence and protection gave peace, joy, and harmony even in that bleak and desolate time.
