When Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, organized The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, she designed it "to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant," as we read on page 19 of the "Historical Sketch" from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy. This Church, founded on the divine Principle, Love, is dedicated both to the worship of God and to the practice of the same Science of healing which Christ Jesus utilized.
In Christian Science, the spiritually scientific meaning of the Bible is brought to light. God is revealed as Father-Mother, infinite Love, tender, compassionate, governing and guiding His children and the universe in perfect harmony and love. All discordant conditions, including evil, poverty, unhappiness, sin, disease, and death, are shown to be no part of God's perfect creation but are, rather, false beliefs, which arise from mankind's ignorance of God, the divine Mind, and of the spiritual facts of existence.
Through Mrs. Eddy's revelation of the Science of Christianity, explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings, the earnest student of Christian Science is shown how to destroy these false beliefs with the truth of being. He learns how to demonstrate health, harmony, freedom, and to reflect the glory and radiance of a life enriched by the pure joys of Soul, God, and the endless resources of eternal Life.
