When I was first told of Christian Science by my sister, to whom I express loving thanks, I lived in the country many miles from the nearest Christian Science church and from a practitioner.
The first time, as far as I can recall, that I attempted to put this teaching into practice was a day when I was using boiling water while doing household chores. As I filled a dipper from the copper, I accidentally knocked it against the laundry tubs, and boiling water flew up into my face. It pained severely. On this occasion, being fearful, I put oil on my face. Then I went on with my work. I sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal and repeated sentences I could remember from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
My face was very painful for some time. By the time my husband came home from work in the late afternoon, however, the pain had left, though he remarked on my red face. By the next day all evidence had gone.
