IN Isaiah's prophecy the Messiah, or Christ, is named Immanuel, that is, "God with us." In speaking of the Christ, Jesus declared (John 8:58), "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
With these words the Master announced to the Jews his knowledge of the eternality of life, of man's pre-existence and his coexistence with God. Recognition of the great fact that the Christ-idea has always included the real identity of every individual precludes from human experience the belief that the history of error can be true.
Because Spirit, God, is All, material conditions lack reality; material circumstances are suppositional; and material history was never veritable. Christian Science shows that evil's claim to time, with ceaseless change as its consequent, is entirely false, for time and matter are inseparable. The life of man has never dwelt in matter, and the intelligence of man is not mortal. Understanding evil's lack of actual history, one is able to perceive more readily the nature of error as a false claim.
