CHANGING THOUGHT

From the January 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

So quickly is human thought changing in this twentieth century that one sometimes finds it difficult to fathom present-day developments. Mary Baker Eddy said in her Message to The Mother Church for 1900 (p. 9), "The twentieth century in the ebb and flow of thought will challenge the thinkers, speakers, and workers to do their best."

One thing must be certain to us, that moral and spiritual development is inevitable. From century to century, the flow of positive, spiritual progression has outdistanced the negative, materialistic ebb that would keep human thought from reaching the full tide of realization of the truths of being.

Spiritual fundamentals are eternal, changeless. Humanity's true development lies in its becoming conscious of these fundamentals: one infinite, all-inclusive God; spiritual man as His inseparable expression; one law, God's self-enforced will, which governs all. Christian Science not only reveals spiritual truths; it shows how mankind can make them practical. The vast number of healings which this Science has brought about points to the true significance of the era in which we live. God and His law are being better understood, and this is changing human thought.
