DESTROYING THE BELIEF OF REACTION

From the January 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One often hears it said that some good which has come to oneself or to a friend is "too good to last." Here is a clear illustration of the carnal mind's tendency to associate good with evil; to believe that for every good action, there is a possible reaction, which can take away all or part of the good received. Sometimes one is even superstitiously hesitant about testifying to a healing in Christian Science for fear that this claim of reversal or reaction may seem to operate.

The sure eradicator of the false belief of reaction is found in the writings of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. One helpful statement, which appears on pages 185 and 186 of her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," reads, "A patient under the influence of mortal mind is healed only by removing the influence on him of this mind, by emptying his thought of the false stimulus and reaction of will-power and filling it with the divine energies of Truth."

How is one to go about "emptying his thought of the false stimulus and reaction of will-power"? Obviously one will never be able to accomplish this while thinking that there is a power opposed to God, good, because, as one learns in Christian Science, the human experience is the result of human thought.
