"NOT BY MIGHT . . . BUT BY MY SPIRIT"

From the January 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Especially relevant today to mankind, including Christian Scientists, are the words in the fourth chapter of Zechariah: "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts."

Apparently an angel talked to Zechariah in a night vision, telling him to encourage Zerubbabel, the civil ruler of Jerusalem, in his difficult and sacred task of rebuilding the temple of the Lord.

Zechariah, in his vision, heard the angel message for Zerubbabel, telling him how the work was to be accomplished, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit." And the angel encouragingly continued: "Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain. . . . The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it."
