Discovery of truth is humanity's age old adventure. Christian Science gives this quest scientific directness. It points out that ultimate truth is the primitive, present, and radiant reality. It also makes clear that the most advanced concepts in the physical sciences are not the ultimate, but are at best only tentative beliefs about ultimate truth, or Science. The intimations of heaven lie all around us.
In the words of its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, Christian Science declares (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 60, 61), "Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality; and if mortals are instructed in spiritual things, it will be seen that material belief, in all its manifestations, reversed, will be found the type and representative of verities priceless, eternal, and just at hand."
Why is this method of discovering spiritual reality by reversal a legitimate and sound method? Simply because material belief is a reversal or imperfect representation of reality. When we begin to accept the instruction furnished by Christian Science, we begin to see what the objects of material belief represent.
