"I Will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord." This precious assurance is given to us by Jeremiah (30:17). In the Old Testament we have accounts of healing by those who understood the power of God to heal. But not until Christ Jesus came did great numbers feel the effect of the certainty that God is willing and able to heal all manner of discord.
The Master taught his followers to heal also, and this work was carried on by the early Christians for about three centuries after Jesus' crucifixion. Then for many centuries it was lost sight of until the discovery and founding of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy.
In the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says (p. xi): "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural."
