My first healing in Christian Science came over thirty years ago as a result of the clear, spiritual understanding of a practitioner. I myself knew nothing about this religion. I was anxiously caring for a loved relative who was having Christian Science treatment when I fell one day and sprained my ankle. My first thought was one of fear that I should be unable to carry on with all the duties demanded of me, but the practitioner who was in charge of this case was called to my aid. She told me to lie quietly and to put all my trust in God whilst she prayed at my side. I did this and was instantaneously healed. This healing so impressed me that I began the study of this Science.
Our early healings in Christian Science are always very dear to us, and so I should like to tell of the first time I demonstrated the power of Truth by my own understanding. One morning soon after my husband had left for his office, I was suddenly stricken with what I afterwards thought must have been food poisoning. I thought of calling a practitioner, but then remembered that this was an opportunity to prove what I had been studying and trusting in. I picked up the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and began the study of the Lesson-Sermon, given in the Quarterly.
Whilst reading, I remembered an account which had been given at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting about that time. The testifier explained that she had been healed of an erroneous condition while considering this statement on page 463 of the textbook: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I saw that if this truth could be proved in one instance, then it could be proved in my case; so I declared this truth, identifying myself with God as His spiritual idea. I was completely healed.
