THE UNDIVIDED GARMENT

From the October 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Anciently the followers of Christ, or Truth, measured Christianity by its power over sickness, sin, and death; but modern religions generally omit all but one of these powers,—the power over sin. We must seek the undivided garment, the whole Christ, as our first proof of Christianity, for Christ, Truth, alone can furnish us with absolute evidence." Mrs. Eddy gives us these statements on page 142 of Science and Health.

Since the Scriptures declare God to be a tender, loving, and merciful Father, could we conceive of Him as delivering His children from sin, but being either unable or unwilling to deliver them from bodily suffering? Could we conceive of His leaving His offspring to the mercies of matter or medicine? No. If we acknowledge His omnipotence and love, we must also acknowledge that He could not delegate His supreme sovereignty to any human power or system.

According to Christian Science, God is supreme and alone in His allness. His ever-present love enfolds all creation in harmony and perfection. He it is "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases" (Ps. 103:3). This truth is proved in the works of the master Christian, Christ Jesus, who healed both sin and disease.
