When Christian Science was presented to me in the summer of 1941, I ridiculed it because I thought it to be just a fad. However, by the winter of that year I was receptive to it, and as a sponge soaks up water, I absorbed its teachings.
Many problems had come my way, and I was searching for the answers from books on religion in the neighborhood public library. None of these books satisfied me, and I began to feel that there was no rhyme or reason to life. However, as a familiar proverb states, "the darkest hour precedes the dawn," and when I returned the books to the library, I noticed one with the word "health" in the title. It proved to be Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
I picked it up because at that time I had a heart murmur, and anything on the subject of health interested me. I read it for about half an hour and just could not put it down. So I borrowed it from the library for two weeks and then renewed it for two more weeks. It answered all my questions satisfactorily. Although there was opposition at home to my study of Christian Science, in His own way and time God opened up a path for me, and now I find myself in a position where I can study as much as I desire with no interference at all. My study provides me with the proper tools with which to solve problems that present themselves.
