Who would not be rich in health, friendships, freedom, and supply? Christian Science teaches that our right desires are fulfilled in proportion to our willingness to learn the way and to walk in the path of holiness. Christ Jesus presented the true way when he said (Matt. 6:33), "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Mortals sometimes pass weary years before accepting the sequence of the Master's statement. To put acquisition of money and material things first is as frustrating as to attempt to build bridges with sand. When material possessions are sought for their own sake, pleasure in them is short-lived, for, according to Christian Science, matter is but mortal belief externalized, sometimes superficially beautiful but always ephemeral and unsatisfying. Only in the life-giving qualities and ideas of Spirit, God, is there perpetual renewal. Pure motives and their demonstration always lead to a gracious plenitude of the added things promised by Jesus.
Mrs. Eddy writes in Miscellany (p. 203), "All that is worth reckoning is what we do, and the best of everything is not too good, but is economy and riches."
