The healing ministry of Christ Jesus proved conclusively the irresistible nature of divine law. Every phase of persecution that threatened to retard Jesus' demonstration of God's law of harmony and dominion was triumphantly overcome by the power of divine Truth, which he so fully exemplified. Wisely he assured his followers (Matt. 5:11, 12): "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven."
Mrs. Eddy learned the truth of this promise in her own experience. In "Miscellaneous Writings" she states (p. 245), "The combined efforts of the materialistic portion of the pulpit and press in 1885, to retard by misrepresentation the stately goings of Christian Science, are giving it new impetus and energy."
The materialistic portion of the pulpit and press at that time would have retarded the unfoldment of Christian Science, the law of God, good. But our Leader knew the utter impotence and helplessness of materialistic opposition and persecution before the irresistible impulsion of divine law. No matter how misrepresented and maligned she was as the revelator of Truth in this age, she did not personalize the persecution; she saw it as impersonal error, the suppositional antipode of divine Science.
