A true estimate of Mrs. Eddy as the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and Leader of the movement saved me from materialism into which I was sinking during my career in the Army and later in my college experience.
From the time I was a little boy, I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School, and because of the innocence, the faith, and the receptivity of childhood, I had been quickly and easily healed by Christian Science of many illnesses and injuries.
Once I fell from my scooter and broke my wrist. My grandfather, trained in surgery, diagnosed the injury; but within minutes after a call to a Christian Science practitioner, I was healed. I proved it to my unbelieving grandfather by turning cartwheels and climbing to the top of a windmill. No one's hands set the bone; not so much as a bandage was applied.
