Before Christian Science came into my...

From the March 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before Christian Science came into my experience, I was a registered nurse. About two years after our marriage, my husband had business reverses. When he called on his father for help, he was directed to a Christian Science practitioner. I shall always be grateful for the patience, love, and spiritual understanding of the practitioner, who spent over three, hours with us in his office, explaining Science and answering our questions about it. When we left his office, I knew this was the truth.

After we arrived home, we emptied our medicine cabinet of every material remedy. But an expensive bottle of nose drops, kept in the refrigerator, was overlooked. One week later a sinus condition, which had become chronic and severe over the years, became aggravated. I was tempted to use the nose drops because I was busy with many things and felt I had no time to study. I used them, and instead of giving relief as they had in the past, they aggravated the condition until it was almost unbearable.

Then I turned to the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I opened it to this passage (p. 167): "The scientific government of the body must be attained through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the body in any other way. On this fundamental point, timid conservatism is absolutely inadmissible. Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."
