Just before his ascension, Jesus said to his disciples: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. . . . And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; . . . they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:15-18).
This mission of the early Christian workers to proclaim the glad tidings of God's power and presence and to heal the sick and the sinning should be the mission of each member of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Every loyal member of this Church is a healer. He may not be a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal, but he must be increasingly active in his use of the healing power of God.
When one enlists in any cause, he binds himself to certain demands and requirements from which he does not expect to escape at will. Joining the Church of Christ, Scientist, carries with it the responsibility to conform to the teachings of Christian Science and to do one's part, which includes accomplishing the healings of which this Science is capable.
