THE IMPORTANCE OF SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHING

From the March 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 570): "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." A Christian Science Sunday School gives to the thirsty wisdom, instruction, guidance, and strength. It proffers to the children and young people the cup of cold water, the refreshing, satisfying, healing Christ, Truth, which Jesus presented.

Teaching in the Sunday School is a great privilege. It affords the consecrated student of this Science a glorious opportunity for individual spiritual growth and the special joy of having an important part in the character building of the Sunday School pupils and in their growth in the understanding of God.

Sunday School teaching from the Bible and Science and Health is provided for in the Church Manual by Mrs. Eddy. Article XX, Section 3, states, "The first lessons of the children should be the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:3-17), the Lord's Prayer (Matt. 6:9-13), and its Spiritual Interpretation by Mary Baker Eddy, Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5:3-12)."
