A few years after my graduation as a medical nurse, I used to visit the home of a friend whose parents expressed so much love and consideration for others that I was curious regarding their religion. I learned that they were students of Christian Science. They showed me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After reading in it the chapter on Prayer, I knew I must have a copy of the book myself. It had all the answers to the many questions I had always asked about religion, and for many years since then I have studied it earnestly. I am grateful that I worked only a few years as a medical nurse, for I had less medical knowledge to unlearn than I would otherwise have had.
I had always been fearful of many things and not a happy person; but the study of Christian Science changed all this, and now I am joyous and have great trust in God's loving care.
About twenty years ago I was left alone and was very unhappy. I felt I had been unjustly treated and began to express hatred. My daughter told me that this showed in my face and in my actions, and then I realized what I was doing to myself. I asked for the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner, but it took several years before I came out of the darkness of resentment and hate into the sunshine of God's love. One morning, after reading the current Lesson-Sermon from the Quarterly, I found I was suddenly healed. I felt as though a great weight had been lifted from me, and I was free and very happy. The one who had seemed to cause me much unhappiness has since become a dear friend.
