Although I did not feel in need of physical healing when I began to study Christian Science about seven years ago, I was in a state of great unrest and unhappiness. I had always been weak and delicate and had had many serious illnesses. Doctors in England told me I should not do a full day's work, and many other limitations were imposed on me. I came to a new country almost in desperation, thinking that I might eventually find something which would give some meaning to life, and it was at this point that a friend told me about Christian Science.
After a long talk we visited a nearby Christian Science Reading Room, where I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. But I soon found it was almost impossible to read it because I had no opportunity for quietness or study. Accommodation at that time was very difficult to obtain. However, although I understood nothing of Science and its teachings on prayer, I remember just talking with God about my need. To my amazement, within about three weeks of my first studying Science, without any difficulty I found a flat which suited my needs completely and in which I was able to study in peace.
I began to feel happier than I had ever felt before, and a deep sense of gratitude is mine for the fact that during the last seven years I have had no serious illness and have always been able to do a full day's work without any time off for sickness.
