Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I should like to relate an experience in which a physical healing was brought about through my decision to place "radical reliance on Truth."
I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School for ten years but had never had to use Science myself to heal a physical difficulty. During my junior year in college, there was an epidemic of a virus infection of the feet. When I first heard of this, I merely thought, "That is only error and cannot harm me." But I did not establish thoroughly in my thought the truths of Christian Science, which are the basis of man's immunity from evil, and soon I noticed the symptoms of the infection on one of my feet. I was frightened because I had heard that the condition could have serious results if not cured.
As the months passed, I grew more and more afraid, and the condition became quite painful. I had told no one else about it, and although I had often thought of calling a Christian Science practitioner for help, I felt embarrassed to do so. I had never had occasion to call one, and being away from home I did not even know whom to call. The thought of resorting to medical treatment also came to me, but I was reluctant to do this because it was contrary to the teachings of Christian Science, which I had grown to love. I could not decide which method to use.
