The work of the Committee which interviews local applicants for membership in The Mother Church is considered very important. This Committee is responsible for meeting with applicants living within the local area who are not members of a branch church within this area. Every effort is made to keep the meeting on a friendly and informal level. The meeting is not an occasion for asking deep and involved metaphysical questions. The questions are kept simple and should be easily answered by one who has been studying Christian Science for not less than a year. The main points to be determined are: the sincerity of the applicant; the extent to which he believes in Christian Science; how long he has studied the Lesson-Sermons, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, and attended church; whether he relies wholly on Christian Science for healing; and whether he is free from the use of medicine, tobacco, and alcohol. If there are situations which need special attention, these are handled with love and understanding. Care is taken not to make it difficult for one to become a member of The Mother Church.

The distribution of Christian Science literature is of vital importance in continuing to bring Christian Science to the attention of the public. This activity reaches many who have never heard of our religion and know nothing of it.
