THE NEW MAN

From the June 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is a glorious experience in one's life when one learns through the study and application of Christian Science to turn away from a false belief of identity and recognize his true selfhood as that which reflects God. In Science one awakens to his relationship to God as God's likeness living in the realm where harmony and well-being are spiritual facts and elements of his real individuality. This illumined sense comes to the individual only when he surrenders trust in or longing for good in matter and when his sole objective is to reach out for that higher, spiritual sense of being that reveals man as the beloved son of God.

In his Epistle to the Colossians, Paul counseled (3:2), "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Later in the letter he reminded them that they had "put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."

Christian Science teaches that the new man is one's real identity, the image and likeness of God, good. One learns to put on the new man to the extent that one's thinking and life are imbued with the nature of God, divine Love. One must live in harmony with real being in order to put off the mortal sense of life and identity. Christian Science shows mankind how this is done.
