THE ASSISTANT COMMITTEE ON PUBLICATION

From the June 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every earnest student of Christian Science who serves in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, is humbly striving to express God through his church activity. This is specifically true of the Assistant Committee on Publication, for he has unique opportunities afforded him to present Christian Science in a variety of ways to non-Scientists.

These opportunities are inherent in the activity of this office. In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, Article XXXIII, Section 2, begins, "It shall be the duty of the Committee on Publication to correct in a Christian manner impositions on the public in regard to Christian Science, injustices done Mrs. Eddy or members of this Church by the daily press, by periodicals or circulated literature of any sort."

Each Assistant Committee on Publication must be alert to this By-Law and watchful in his own community. Not only does he scan the local newspapers for any incorrect view about Christian Science, but he contacts editors of newspapers in order to have printed each week authorized notices of the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, as well as other news about special broadcasts. Sometimes the Assistant is asked to be the spokesman for Christian Science in situations that arise in the community or in schools. Frequently he is asked to give authorized talks on Christian Science to non-Scientists.
