Church in Action

Brooms and carnations

From the July 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

People of humble origin account for most of the nearly 250,000 population of La Granja, an industrial area of the southern part of Santiago, Chile. They are factory workers without much formal education. Most of them haven't heard yet about Christian Science.

Also in La Granja there is a small informal group of Christian Scientists, who hold church services faithfully. They have felt the quickening touch of the Christ, and they desire to share Christian Science with the community.

Last fall they invited Mr. Roy J. Linnig, member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, to come to their town. All good and well to schedule a lecture. But what could be done to ensure its success here, where people were struggling to reach a higher standard of living and seemed alienated from religion? The lecture was dutifully publicized by radio and newspaper, but this was no foolproof method of reaching these people.
