The Mind-healing Church

Jesus' question to the disciples, "Whom say ye that I am?" is asked of Christians today and should have as inspirational an answer as that given by Peter centuries ago, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." It will then be possible to understand the profundity of Jesus' declaration: "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church."Matt. 16:15–18;

It is upon the Rock, the healing Christ, that the Church of Christ, Scientist, is founded. Flesh and blood and materialism cannot reveal to mankind the Christ, Truth, which is the basis of this Mind-healing church. For this recognition there are two essentials: first, divine revelation, which is the result of a deep desire to know God; secondly, understanding, which is gained through a deep desire to serve God.

Mrs. Eddy possessed both these essentials. Through revelation she grasped the full significance of "Church" as voiced by Jesus, and she defines it in Science and Health thus:
