I am humbly grateful for Christian Science, for it means everything to me and has met my every need in the forty years since I first read a borrowed copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
When our children were quite young, my husband and I bought a house in the immediate neighborhood of some Christian Science friends. One day while our children were playing together, we mothers were conversing, and I spoke to my friend about the power of good and evil with which mothers had to contend. She quickly replied, "There is but one power and that power is good." Having been a Bible student for many years, I insisted that there were two powers, good and evil, and picking up the Bible for proof turned to Romans and read (13:1): "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." I sat down bewildered but ready to admit my mistake and to yield to a new concept of power.
My friend said she would be glad to loan me her copy of the textbook, Science and Health, if I would like to read it, and I eagerly accepted her offer. As soon as I opened this book and began to read, the golden moments came. I audibly declared, "This is the truth of God, man, and creation which I have been searching for, an absolute truth that sets one free from doubt and fear."
